Organizing isn’t always about bins + beauty. Many times people live their day to day working around the clutter to the point where its become second nature to them.
There is a non-glamorous side to this job. We don’t share this to turn you off but to give you a full picture of what the job can entail.
Here are some of the hard truths about this profession:
spouse involvement
not everyone is as clean as you might be: dust, dirt and bugs come with the territory
the goal isn’t always a “glamorous” ending
there’s a lot of good, bad and ugly
distractions
not everyone lives “the way you think they should”
clients with an inability to declutter anything but want to make space
matching bins or hangers aren’t important to everyone
“weird” habits or lifestyles
every job is different from the next
function over fashion happens often
a persons inability to make decisions
there are a lot of personalities in the world
sometimes there is A LOT of emotion over what seems like a simple thing
people want to talk about every item or memory
on occasion you find gross things
sometimes there’s A LOT of stuff
smells come in all shapes and sizes
what’s personal to them might seem strange to you
there’s a lot of talk therapy that takes place
people have all kinds of pets
it typically always gets worse before it gets better
some days the progress doesn’t feel like enough
many people can’t focus for long periods of time
the process can be very overwhelming

Our job is to begin freeing people from the burden of things that weigh them down every day. At times it can start off slow, but when the momentum picks up and it all comes together in the end…it’s something special to experience! There is always magic that happens, it’s just different for each project.

watching the weight lift from from a persons shoulders

having a client ask about other spaces in their house because they realize the process is working
experiencing the before + after of an overwhelmed space
seeing the life come back into a space
watching someones body language go from ridged to relaxed just by making space in their space
a kids reactions to the space
watching someone realize they don’t need “stuff” to be happy
seeing someone regain control
getting a text that night about how thankful they are for their “new” space
creating a simple system that your client responds with “this is great, I can maintain this”
a client saying:
“I’ve never seen this room look like this”
“I’ve been looking for this”
“I can’t believe this is my space”
“I am so relieved”
