school supply drive collaboration with the 5th grade national elementary honor society students at sienna crossing elementary to collect old school supplies to upcycle and donate to a local school in need.

We’re excited to start this new tradition at Sienna Crossing Elementary.

NEHS service project for 5th graders about upcycling and donating school supplies to a local Title 1 school in Missouri City, Texas

As these kiddos head off to start their middle school journey, we have an opportunity to share a lesson on giving back.

The end of the school year brings excitement and the dreaded year end backpack of stuff!

As part of our business, we donate our clients discarded items to local organizations. Donating school supplies to Title 1 schools, within our community, has been a regular part of our business.

This felt like the perfect opportunity to bring schools + kids + teachers + our community together!

Each 5th grade classroom will have a box for students to drop in their donated school supplies. (Only 5th grade will be participating in the drive.)

On May 27th, students on the NEHS Service Committee will help collect the donation boxes and sort items. This will be a great opportunity for students to work together to create a system and plan for sorting and packing up items.

All items will be boxed and transported (by our team) to E.A. Jones Elementary School in Missouri City. Students will not leave SCE campus.

  1. What supplies are being collected?

To make this as easy as possible (and not create more work for teachers) we are just asking students to place all their supplies in the collection boxes. The service team will sort everything collected. Ideally, we’d like to donate rulers, scissors, pencil cases, pencils/pens/crayons/markers, folders, notebook paper, construction paper, unused notebooks.

  2. I have kiddos in other grades, can they come by the 5th grade classes to drop off their supplies?

We’ve limited this project to 5th graders since they are transitioning to a new school next year and will most likely have different school supply needs. That’s not to say this project doesn’t open up to more grades in coming years. Stay tuned!

  3. What if I want to reuse my child’s supplies for a sibling?

We love every opportunity to upcycle + recycle items! Hence, the reason this project came to life. Simply let your teacher know by initialing the form that came home and sending it back to class.

  4. I want my child’s school work and notebooks to come home.

As parents and guardians, we also contribute to a lot of the work they do and want to see “our” hard work! No problem. Let your kiddo know to bring home their folders, notebooks and paperwork.

  5. I have school supplies at home that we are not going to use. Can I donate those?

ABSOLUTELY! Have your kiddo bring those items to school before May27th and add them to the collection box.

  6. How was this Title 1 school picked?

Over the years we’ve built relationships with many people and organizations in our community to support through donations we’ve collected from clients. We connected with an administrator at this school and have built a great bond with her. This bond has allowed us to provide the teachers and administrators with many school supplies for their students and classrooms, as well as items outside of traditional school supplies to support the aesthetic of their classrooms.
